You know, I've really had an urge lately to make comics that focus more on a character's day-to-day life, no matter how funny or over-the-top it can be. I guess I mean "slice-of-life", but really I've had this urge to take one of my OC's and make a series of short comics about all the stuff that he deals with when he's not elbowing people in the face.
I've been working on my lametarded little fight-fest webcomic Battle Maniax for nearly three years now (this will be three years technically in April since that was the month I started drawing it back in 2005; it wasn't online until late July), and lately I've been feeling disatisfied with it, largely because I think the three-page-a-week thing isn't working anymore; it's killing the pacing of the comic and making events unfold a lot more slowly and I feel it's harder for one to keep an interest in a storyline when it's taken months just for something to happen! Though to be honest, I didn't originally intend for Battle Maniax to even remotely contain enough depth for me to worry about this now. It was just supposed to be a stupid fighting comic that paid tribute to my love for fighting games and fashion.
...I sure am speaking negatively about my comic, aren't I? I don't intend to cancel it, but I really think changes need to be made, which is why I'm so critical of it lately.
ANYWAY. I digress. I think after working on a little fight comic for so long, I need a change of scene for a bit so that I don't get tired of what I'm working on right now, hence my urge to do this different story that focuses more on character development on some of the cast since the current pace of Battle Maniax doesn't allow for much room for development. That, and I've been wanting to work on a series of comics of this nature for years now--and now that I feel that I've improved as an artist and have gotten to know my characters better, the time to do this is now.
Comic shorts such as "Autumn Hair" and the notorious "Peppermint Mocha Kiss" are the kinds of comics I've had this urge to work on. I've actually already started on some new shorts, so this isn't something I've even considered, I've been working on it for months now and will share more of these stories as well as give details for what in the hell I'm even doing in due time.
I apologise if this post is a disorganised mess. It's been a rough week for my brain, as some of you already know. :D
(With all this talk about my doing comics, one may wonder why the fuck I'm not mentioning anything about trying to be published...)
